Contractors, Housebuilders and Construction Engineers
The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) is the Irish construction industry’s representative body. It supports Irish construction companies and has a number of sectoral associations which pursue the policy objectives of their sub-sector of the industry. These include The Irish Homebuilders Association, The Master Builders and Contractors Association, Master Painters & Decorators of Ireland, Mechanical and Electrical Contractors Association (MECA), the Civil Engineering Contractors Association, and the Alliance of Specialist Contractors Association (ASCA). Total membership of the CIF numbers in excess of 1,500 firms.
The CIF provides corporate membership to companies and organisations who would like to work with Irish construction companies and they suggest that their “…. corporate membership package offers an excellent marketing opportunity. Corporate members can communicate with the construction industry in this country on a targeted and extremely focused basis”.
Construction is the official publication of the CIF in Ireland and offers advertising opportunities.
The Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) is a voluntary, self-regulatory professional body, representing the business and professional interests of firms and individuals engaged in Consulting Engineering. Its membership directory includes over 70 firms identified as offering civil engineering services and a similar number of firms offering structural engineering services (many firms appear in both categories).

Builders Merchants
The Hardware Association Ireland (HAI) is the national representative body for hardware/DIY retailers and builders merchants, as well as manufacturers/distributors to the trade. It has over 400 members (March 2019) split between retailers and merchants, distributors and manufacturers. It also publishes, bi-monthly, The Hardware Journal.
The Irish builders’ merchants market is characterised by a large number of small independent firms and, according to the Builders Merchants Market Report, Europe, published by AMA Research, was worth approximately €790 million in 2015. The report also noted that the market was “.....very fragmented with many small suppliers. There are some chains, notably, Chadwicks, Heiton Buckley – both Grafton Group - and Murdock’s. A key buying group is Topline, which has 90 members.”
